This module provides operational guidance for safely managing electric and hybrid vehicle collisions, fires, and high-voltage battery incidents. It covers vehicle identification, scene assessment using a 360° size-up, hazard recognition, and prioritising responder safety. Learners explore procedures for immobilising, stabilising, and isolating vehicles, conducting thermal monitoring, and assessing battery damage from various impact scenarios or submersion events.

 

The module details firefighting strategies for lithium-ion battery thermal runaway, including water-based cooling, containment methods, and specialist equipment, while emphasising environmental protection. It also addresses post-incident protocols such as safe towing, quarantine storage, and ongoing monitoring to mitigate the high risk of delayed battery reignition.
