About the Course
Supplementary Restraint Systems rely on pyrotechnic devices to operate, at very high speed and with explosive force. This course familiarises delegates with Supplementary Restraint Systems (SRS) and how to safely handle and neutralise these devices.
You will be able to:
Demonstrate a general knowledge of pyrotechnic devices and Supplementary Restraint Systems (SRS) within motor vehicles.
Indicate where these pyrotechnic devices are usually located and how they operate.
Demonstrate how to retrieve critical technical data from various sources to establish the location of the Pyrotechnic Control Module(s).
Highlight the precautions, hazards and associated risks posed by airbags, pretensioners and other SRS when dismantling vehicles at the end of their serviceable life.
Safely connect and deploy the pyrotechnic devices in-situ, using a Detonator Control Module device, inline with the guidance provided by DEFRA.
Who is this course suitable for?
This course is designed for anyone who needs awareness of pyrotechnic devices and Supplementary Restraint Systems (SRS systems) within motor vehicles.
This course is designed for anyone who requires technical knowledge of SRS systems including airbags, pretensioners and other supplementary restraint systems.
This course highlights the hazards and the risks posed by airbags, pretensioners and other supplementary restraint systems when dismantling vehicles at the end of their serviceable life.
This course is designed for technicians or operators who need to know how to safely neutralise airbags, pretensioners and other SRS systems, whilst still installed within the vehicle (in-situ).
No experience is needed to take part in this course, it is aimed at all levels within an organisation or company.
Suitable for operatives, technicians, supervisors and management.
Full Description:
Supplementary Restraint Systems refers to passive safety features on a vehicle designed to alleviate the consequences of an vehicle accident. Passive safety features are those that don’t prevent an accident but minimise the consequences or outcome of an accident in order to protect both the vehicle occupants and other road users. Most of these devices rely on pyrotechnic devices to operate, at very high speed and with explosive force. If these devices are not handled properly, they can cause serious injury and therefore it is critical that a modern day depollution technician, knows how to manage these components safely.
Guidance from DEFRA for Authorised Testing Facilities requires that operators removing or deploying Airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and other pyrotechnic devices should be properly trained in order to reduce the risk of injury.
This course provides training in the areas recommended by DEFRA. Delegates are taught everything they need to know about Supplementary Restraint Systems (SRS), how to identify, safely handle and neutralise them.
